About

Sherry Mallach

"Art is still an evolving and changing experience for me as I try more experimentation.  Color and value are emphasized while trying to 'capture the light'.  Painting to me is putting the feelings on canvas; creating the emotion, mood and/or temperature; interpret the soul, spirit or personality of live subjects and the textures of objects. Currently challenging myself, especially with size, texture and color; exploring the possibilities and learning more with every brush stroke."

Biography

Sherry was born in British Columbia, Canada.  She lived primarily in the Okanagan and Boundary areas of BC, until becoming resident of Invermere in 1990.  Forestry work was her main career and work interest.  Recreation was riding horses, fishing, hiking and anything that took her outside and in nature.

Basically elementary school had the only art exposure & learning for her until a neighbour dragged her to a weekend art course in 2005.  So much fun that she spent the next few years trying to fit in time for learning to compose/design, mix colors and use the paints.  Whenever possible attended weekend courses (mostly in local area), read art books, studied other artists’ work and got helpful tips and critiques from others.

Sherry's art ‘career’ basically began in 2009/10 with creations of paintings in mainly acrylic and oil.  A variety of subject matter is used to create from what draws and inspires her.  Nature, animals and country living are a big influence and inspiration for many of the paintings.  The incredible scenery and wildlife viewings possible in the Rocky Mountains, where she lives, are often seen in her paintings.
